100 KB photo size: a 100 KB JPG usually holds about 600 × 600 to 800 × 800 pixels at good quality, or a 413 × 531 px passport photo (35 × 45 mm at 300 DPI) at almost full quality. Choose your picture in the tool above and it saves the sharpest copy that stays just under 100 KB, never above it.

This image resizer 100KB page is set up for Indian forms such as CTET, JEE Main and bank exam declarations. Everything runs inside your own browser, so a marksheet, signature or ID card is never sent anywhere.

What is 100 KB photo size in pixels?

There is no single answer, because a JPG’s weight depends on detail as well as width and height. As a rule of thumb, a 100 KB image size works out to about 600 to 800 pixels on each side for an ordinary phone photo saved at good JPG quality.

These rough figures come from our own test with one phone-style photo saved as JPG. A plain wall behind you makes the file lighter, a busy background heavier:

PixelsTypical useBest JPG quality under 100 KBFile size
350 × 45035 × 45 mm at about 254 DPI95%about 76 KB
413 × 531Passport, 35 × 45 mm at 300 DPI94%about 90 KB
600 × 600Square form photo90%about 96 KB
800 × 800Square photo81%about 99 KB
1000 × 1000UPSC and e-Visa maximum68%about 99 KB
1600 × 1600Large phone crop26% (blocky)about 99 KB
Approximate only. Your own photo may land a little higher or lower.

So what size photo is 100KB? Roughly a 600 × 600 to 800 × 800 pixel picture. Past about 1,200 pixels the quality must drop so low that faces turn blocky, so the tool cuts pixels on large camera photos first. For a 100KB size image that still looks sharp, about 800 pixels on the long side is a good start.

How much room 100 KB really buys

100 KB carries about five times as much picture as 20 KB. A large photo usually keeps a clear, natural face at this size.

What is 100 KB?

A kilobyte is a unit of file size, not of picture size. A 100 kilobyte photo is 102,400 bytes when 1 KB is counted as 1,024 bytes, which is how this tool and Windows count. Some portals count 1 KB as 1,000 bytes, so their 100 KB limit is only 100,000 bytes.

That gap is why a 99.5 KB file can still be refused. When a notice says the photo size should be maximum 100KB, aim for 95 to 98 KB and you are safe either way.

Pixels are the width and height, DPI is only a print setting, and KB is the weight the upload box checks. That is the key idea behind any image resizer in KB: 100 means weight, not width. So when you set a photo resizer in KB to 100KB, you choose how heavy the file is, not how big it looks.

Which forms ask for 100 KB?

Only a few portals cap an upload at exactly 100 KB. Many more give a wider range that 100 KB sits inside:

FormUploadAllowed size
CTET (CBSE)Photograph, 3.5 × 4.5 cm10–100 KB
JEE Main (NTA)Signature, 3.5 × 1.5 cm10–100 KB
SBI and IBPS-pattern bank examsHandwritten declaration, 800 × 400 px50–100 KB
NEET UG and CUET UGPhotograph10–200 KB
UPSC Civil ServicesPhoto, signature, photo ID20–300 KB
Indian e-VisaSquare photo, 350 to 1000 px10–300 KB
Rules change every cycle. Always check the latest official notice for your exam before you upload.

For CTET the photo size 100 KB is the hard maximum, so a 101 KB file fails. When a form wants a 100 KB size photo with a 10 KB floor, anything from about 30 to 98 KB is fine. For NEET, CUET, UPSC and the e-Visa, 100 KB sits safely in the middle of the range.

For a certificate, resize to 100 KB only after cropping away the empty margins, so the text gets the whole budget.

Where 100 KB is too big

Bank exam photos on the IBPS and SBI pattern need 20–50 KB, and their signatures only 10–20 KB. RRB NTPC signatures must be 30–49 KB, and SSC and RRB now capture your photo live on the portal instead of taking a file. A 100 KB upload is refused there however good it looks. Match the form’s range, not the biggest number.

For those uploads, use the 50 KB photo resizer for bank exam photos and the 20 KB resizer for signatures. A CTET signature (3–30 KB) fits the 30 KB page, and for an RRB signature of 30–49 KB, type 40 in the Custom target box. Our government form photo and signature size guide lists each exam with its pixel size.

How to resize image to 100KB

Nothing needs changing first, because the image resizer to 100KB is preset on this page. It works as a photo resizer to 100KB in three steps and a few seconds, with no account and nothing to install.

1

Choose your picture. JPG, PNG, iPhone HEIC and scans all work. Use the camera original, not a copy forwarded on WhatsApp.

2

Leave 100 KB selected. If your form gives a range such as 50–100 KB, pick the matching exam preset so the floor is respected too.

3

Press and download. The panel shows the old size, the new size and the pixels used. Zoom in on the preview before you save.

Every result is saved as a JPG, so PNG and HEIC files are converted in the same step. To resize image to 100KB online you only need a browser.

Never compress the same file twice

Every JPG save throws detail away for good. A second or third round stacks that damage, which is how a clear face turns blotchy. Always start again from the original rather than re-compressing a download.

Photo resize in 100 KB on mobile

The page works as a photo resizer in 100KB in Chrome on Android and Safari on iPhone. To resize a photo in 100 KB on your phone:

1. Tap “Tap to choose a photo” and pick from your gallery, or take a new picture against a plain wall.

2. Tap “Resize my photo”. Even a 5 MB photo takes seconds, and the whole pic resize in 100 KB happens on the phone itself.

3. Tap “Download photo”. Android saves it to Downloads. On iPhone it goes to Downloads in the Files app.

4. In the form, choose Files or Downloads rather than Gallery, so you upload the resized copy and not the original.

The same steps work if you want to resize a pic under 100KB for WhatsApp, or resize a picture to 100 KB for a college portal.

Reduce or increase image size to 100 KB

Reducing is the usual case. A phone photo is often 2 to 5 MB. Whether you need to resize under 100KB or resize below 100KB for a strict portal, the tool lowers the pixels to a sensible size, then picks the highest JPG quality that still fits. A typical photo resize into 100 KB takes a 4000 × 3000 camera image down to roughly 800 to 1,100 pixels wide.

Increasing is a different job. Some forms set a minimum, and a small file can fall below it. The 100 KB tool on this page reduces files; it does not pad a small one up. If you need an image size increase to 100KB, start again from the original camera photo, which has more detail to keep. For a range such as 50–100 KB, the matching exam preset checks the floor as well.

Will the quality drop at 100 KB?

Some detail is always given up, because JPG is a lossy format. For most faces a 100KB photo resize is invisible on a phone screen and on a printed admit card. A 100 KB picture has room for a passport-size face at nearly full quality, so for that kind of photo a 100 KB resize is close to lossless to the eye.

Be wary of tools that promise compression “without losing quality”. A good compressor gives up detail where your eye will not look and tells you what it changed. This one shows the final size, pixels and quality used.

Scanned text is harder than faces, because JPG handles hard black edges worst. A full A4 page can look smudgy at 100 KB, so crop tightly and use a bigger size if the form allows it.

JPG or PNG for a 100 KB image?

Use JPG. In our test a 1000 × 1000 photo was over 1,000 KB as a PNG, ten times the limit, while the same photo as a JPG fit under 100 KB. That is why Indian forms ask for JPG, and why this tool always saves JPG.

For a screenshot or any other picture, resize to 100 KB as a JPG and never as a PNG. If a field asks for PDF, convert the resized JPG to PDF afterwards; its size stays close to the JPG.

Common upload errors and fixes

Error you seeWhat to do
“Image size 100 KB maximum” or “File size exceeds limit”Resize again with a target of 95 KB in the Custom target box.
“Make photo size 100 KB or less” after a file looked fineThe portal may count 1 KB as 1,000 bytes. A 95 KB target will convert photo size to 100 KB by its count.
File too small or below minimumRedo the photo resize to 100 KB from the original file and pick the exam preset with the right floor.
Invalid file formatUpload the JPG from the tool. HEIC, PNG and WebP are converted automatically.
Invalid image dimensionsCrop to the shape the form wants, such as square for the e-Visa, then resize.
Photo not clear or rejectedUse a sharper original and never stretch a tiny photo bigger.
Error wording differs from portal to portal. These are the common types.

The safest way to size an image to 100 KB is to start from the original, crop it to the form’s shape and leave a few KB of margin.

50 KB vs 100 KB vs 150 KB: which should you pick?

What you are uploadingAt 50 KBAt 100 KBAt 150 KB
Passport-style photoRight for bank-style formsSharp, near full qualitySharper, only if the range allows
SignatureToo big for 10–20 KB limitsOnly where allowed, such as JEE MainRarely accepted
Handwritten declarationBelow a 50 KB floorFits the 50–100 KB rangeToo big
Full A4 page of textSmall print suffersReadableBest for dense pages
Pick the largest size your form allows, then stay a few KB under it.

If your limit is tighter, the 50 KB resizer is the usual choice for exam photos. For forms that allow more, the 150 KB page and the 200 KB page give dense scans more room, and multi-page PDFs and A4 certificates have a 500 KB option.

Need a different size?

Every size has its own page with the target already filled in.

Common questions

What is the size of 100 KB photo in pixels?

Usually about 600 × 600 to 800 × 800 pixels at good JPG quality. A 413 × 531 px passport photo fits at almost full quality. Detail and background change the exact figure.

Will the file be exactly 100 KB?

It lands just under, usually around 97 to 99 KB, and never above. A good image resizer in 100 KB mode stops a little short of the line. If your portal counts 1 KB as 1,000 bytes, type 95 in the Custom target box.

Can I resize photo to 100KB on my phone?

Yes. Open this page in Chrome or Safari, choose the picture and tap Resize my photo. Nothing to install.

My photo is already under 100 KB. What happens?

It is left close to how it arrived, since there is nothing to gain. If your form also sets a floor, use the matching preset so both ends are checked.

Can I convert photo into 100 KB from PNG or HEIC?

Yes. JPG, PNG, HEIC, WebP, AVIF, TIFF and more all work. The result is saved as JPG because portals accept it, and any see-through PNG background is filled with white.

Is 100 KB right for SSC or bank forms?

Usually not. Bank photos need 20–50 KB and SSC takes a live photo on the portal. Use the exam preset and check your notification.

Is this a web resizer for 100 KB that works offline?

Yes. Once the page has loaded, the resizing runs in your browser, so JPG and PNG files keep working if your internet drops. HEIC files need a connection for their decoder.

Safe for identity documents

Every 100 KB image resize happens on your own device. There is no upload, no storage and no account, which is exactly what you want before putting a marksheet or an identity card through any website.
